Following a design competition, S+A is awarded the design of a convention hall for the Nakornrachasima Rajabhat University.
The main purpose of the hall is to accommodate graduation ceremonies for a number of universities in Thailand’s central region. The ceremony is presided over by Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn, and usually pulls thousands of students their relatives and organizing staff.
The proposed design offers a main large-scale hall to accommodate 5,000 students with capability to house thousands more under and around the building. A secondary building offer private quarters for the Crown Prince and his entourage.
The unusual building shape and particularly the roof resembles bird wings while the angles comes from origami folding. Conceptually these represent a bird’s maiden flight to symbolize the starting new lives of graduating students.
